Initial Training Upon being worked with, all officers start with 3 weeks of initial training covering numerous subjects. Montana Law Enforcement Academy (MLEA) Standard Program All entry level officers go to the standard program which includes 12 weeks of scholastic and physical training. All lateral officers from other states need to send their certifications and pass an equivalency program to be exempt from attending the fundamental program.
Field Training and Assessment Program (FTEP) All officers get involved in a 14-week field training program, partnering with skilled field training officers (FTOs). Lateral officers will start this program immediately after the initial training. Entry level officers will start this program after finishing from the MLEA Basic Program. Probationary Period All officers need to effectively complete a 1 year probationary period to continue their work with the Bozeman Police Department.
